Silver and rock crystal reliquary

Description

ca 1680 rock crystal heart shaped reliquary, in gilt silver mounts. The heart shaped rock crystal recepticle is holding the original relique.In medieval times reliques were held by the churh in churches, but by 1500 “portable” reliquarys were wide spread.
Heart shaped reliquarys were referring to the sacred heart.
Probably French ca 1660-80
