Eighteenth century Hispano-Philippine silver filigree box
Description
Oval, egg shaped silver filigree “bonbonniere” box with handles. Ca 1780-90 Hispano-Phillipine.The shape of the box , or rather the form of it is European, but the fact that it is filigree rather than traditional hollow ware, and the uniquely delivered local decoration, gives the piece a fantasy type of outlandishness. All silver dealers love pieces that reflect two or more cultures, fused in one article, to follow a western design fused with Eastern “redesign”.
