Eighteenth century silver snuffbox in the shape of a fat mermaid. Hallmarked on the rim with the town mark of Swabish Gmund , a small town in Swabia, Germany plus a Makers mark. Novelty snuff boxes were all the rage in the eighteenth century all shapes and forms and materials were used to satisfy the burgeoning market. Swabish Gmund produced lots of “smalls” like, salts snuff boxes etc.Remnants of fire gilding inside.
