Indian mutiny gold ring

22 carat gold ring, inscribed with the name of Color Sergeant Daniel Beare who fought in the British army during the Indian Mutiny in 1857 and was awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal and the gold ring going with the medal.The Mutiny was a result of various grievances. However the flash point was reached when the soldiers were asked to bite off the paper cartridges for their rifles which were greased with animal fat, namely beef and pork. This was, and is, against the religious beliefs of Hindus and Muslims, respectively.
