Description

First century A.D. intaglio of a hare in mid nineteeth century high carat gold ring. The motif of a hare appears on coinage in Sicily in the early Greek period, and carries on as an animal associated with Sicily. It also is plausable that ancient Romans used the image for a wide variety of different ways. Since most of these intaglios were amulets a hare could be a fertility symbol, or a symbol of plenty..
