Trompe l’oeil three piece silver tea set. Moscow 1888. Trompe l’oeil silver is made to imitate the bark of birch tree and to give the illusion that this silver piece is made by woven birch rather than silver. By the second half of the nineteenth century Russian silversmiths perfected this astonishing look by chasing silver articles to a degree that one “can” believe that it is made of birch bark rather than silver.
Very good quality, all three pieces are gilt inside.
Height of teapot : 14 cm
